1. Travel By Road


So, here we start the journey to Kedarnath by road. You need to book a taxi or bus, services which are privately run or by the GMOU LTD. If you are travelling from Delhi then reach Haridwar or Rishikesh from any medium to be it road, rail, bus or by airways. Also, visit directly to GauriKund From Delhi has a direct bus from Kashmiri Gate to GauriKund which is run by Uttarakhand Transport Corporation.

2. Travel By Air


From Dehradun, You will travel to Sahastradhara helipad at Dehradun from where the chopper will drop you till your final destination within 40 minutes.

From Haridwar / Rishikesh, In case you decide to travel Kedarnath from the holy cities of Rishikesh / Haridwar via a helicopter then you will be travel from Haridwar / Rishikesh to Phata via a taxi service which will be covering a distance of almost 200 km

3. How to Reach Kedarnath by Trek


Once you reach  Sonprayag you will be required to travel in sharing cabs which charge Rs.20 per person. This can will take you to Gaurikund. After that, your journey will start to Kedarnath trek.

4. Trek Distance to Kedarnath


The trek to Kedarnath is a 16 km trek which starts from Gaurikund till Kedarnath. The route is changed from Rambad, Trek has increased to 22 km since the 2013 flood disaster in Uttrakhand.

However, the Gov has now changed the trek Route of Kedarnath after the 2013 disaster as the old trek route to Kedarnath was completely erased from Rambada. The New Trek Route to Kedarnath is given below which will be your Travel Guide to Kedarnath Trek.
  • Sonprayag to Gaurikund - 6km
  • Gaurikund to Jungle Chatti- 4km through the Rambara Bridge.
  • Jungle Chatti to Bheembali - 3km
  • Bheembali to Linchauli - 4km
  • Linchauli to Kedarnath Base Camp - 4km
  • Kedarnath Base Camp to Kedarnath Temple - 1km

6. Timing and Medical check-up

You get checked up by Doctors there and get to know if you are eligible to complete this trekking journey or not. The Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund starts at 4 am early in the morning and goes on till 1:30 pm in the afternoon and these timings are fixed since Kedarnath Dham is located inside the Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary and this is the reason why pilgrims are not allowed to trek any time after this. Since this trekking journey is high altitude and it is advised to the pilgrims who are suffering from the respiratory problem should consult the doctor before taking up the trekking journey.


7. Facilities


Kedarnath trek facilities, anyone can book these services from the booking counter at Gaurikund / Sonprayag. Different distances have different rates such as.
  • Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dandi will be Rs 4450
  • Kandi will cost Rs 3350
  • Pony will cost Rs 4100
In the middle of the trek, there is a facility for drinking water and food.

8. Thing to Remember
  • Do get a check-up before going on the trek to Kedarnath.
  • People with Respiratory disorders and High Blood Pressure should not trek to Kedarnath.
  • If you want to travel through Kandi, Ponies and Palki make sure that the prior booking is done at Gaurikund/Sonprayag booking counter.
  • Trek between 04:00 AM to 01:30 PM as this is the only time when pilgrims are allowed to trek to Kedarnath.
  • In case you won’t be able to cover the trek till late evening you can take Palki or Ponies to reach to your destination. You can also stay in the camps which are set up in between the trek at Jungle Chatti, Bheem Bali and Lincholi for a night and start journey next morning.
9. A short story about Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath Nath Dham is very much recognized. Every year thousands of devotees come to visit. The belief of this Dham is that the Pandavas were accused of killing Kutum, who was searching for Lord Shiva to repent. Lord Shiva took the form of a buffalo so that the Pandavas could not recognize Shiva. Then Bhima recognized Lord Shiva and Bhima grabbed his tail, then Shiva started clinging to that place, his back was in Uttarakhand and his head was in Nepal.
